The Adrián Hoteles Foundation will finance the construction of an outdoor terrace for the Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital (HUNSC), with an investment of 90,000 euros. The project, which starts in July 2026 with an estimated duration of two months, aims to offer patients in these units and their families an accessible, safe, and adapted outdoor space.
The terrace has been designed to guarantee universal access: both patients who can walk on their own and those who require transportation on a stretcher will be able to use it. The design allows for the simultaneous stay of two patients, each accompanied by a family member, in an environment that combines accessibility, comfort, and disconnection.
The project responds to the growing demand for humanization of hospital spaces, especially in high-complexity units such as pediatric and neonatal intensive care, where patients and their families are faced with highly emotional situations. For those going through the experience of having a child hospitalized in these units, access to an outdoor space can provide significant relief: natural light, fresh air, and the possibility of being close to loved ones outside the clinical environment are elements recognized as positive for the well-being of patients and their companions.
The Adrián Hoteles Foundation has been developing initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of people in vulnerable situations in the Canary Islands for years. The funding of this project reinforces that commitment and represents one of the largest economic interventions carried out to date.
