The Day of the Canary Islands is a special occasion to celebrate our roots, our culture, and everything that makes these islands unique. At Roca Nivaria GH, we believe that every detail matters, which is why many of the names that are part of our hotel were not chosen randomly. They are inspired by the aboriginal history, Canary nature, and words that connect us to our deepest roots.
We want you to discover the meaning of some of them:
Roca Nivaria
The name of the hotel combines two concepts laden with symbolism. “Roca” represents strength, the volcanic land that sustains us, our connection to nature. “Nivaria” was the name the Romans gave to Tenerife, meaning “place where there is snow,” in reference to Mount Teide. Additionally, our hotel stands on an ancient volcanic rest, reinforcing that link with the geology and history of the island.
Bar Piscina Ahemón
“Ahemón” means “water” in the Guanche language. We chose this name for our pool bar because water is life, freshness, and a sacred element for the ancient inhabitants of the Canary Islands. Here, amid dips and cocktails, we pay homage to its importance.
Bar Tamaragua
“Tamaragua” was a greeting used by the aborigines and means “welcome.” Our lobby bar bears this name as a reflection of our hospitality. Every person who crosses its doors is greeted with a smile and the sincere wish to feel at home.
Restaurante Buffet Garoé
The “Garoé” is the mythical tree of El Hierro, capable of capturing water from the mist to supply the island’s inhabitants. It symbolizes abundance and survival. That’s why we chose it for our buffet restaurant: a place where variety, flavors, and generosity are always present.
Miniclub Guirgo
“Guirgo” is what the Canarian children called the game of hide-and-seek. Our miniclub is a space designed for the little ones to live their own adventure, play, laugh, and explore, just like the Canarian children of yesteryear.
